Honey Balm for Everything!
Today I have something special for you! The idea to create this natural eczema ointment came completely by accident. Nevertheless, it turned out to be a well-researched and documented remedy for various skin problems.
One day, while browsing I came across an article about eczema. The author referenced an interesting study on the effectiveness of an ointment made with olive oil, honey, and beeswax in treating skin lesions. The study used the ingredients in a 1:1:1 ratio, so – as an enthusiastic fan of natural cosmetics – I promptly decided to recreate this recipe.
That same day, I got to work, but the final result turned out as hard as concrete. I honestly have no idea how anyone would apply such an ointment for eczema. Heat it? Sculpt it? Use a chisel?
I decided to change the formula – I reduced the amount of beeswax while maintaining 30% honey content. After several attempts, I managed to create an ointment with the perfect consistency: easy to spread and, most importantly – not sticky, despite the significant amount of honey.

When I started delving into scientific studies, it turned out that this ointment had been thoroughly researched – not only for eczema, but also for psoriasis, diabetic foot ulcers, hemorrhoids, and anal fissures. In each of these cases, its effectiveness was demonstrated, and just as importantly – no side effects were noted.
It is definitely worth having it in your home pharmacy, not only for abrasions or minor wounds. It also works great as a lip balm, and even as a nourishing night balm that can be applied over your moisturizing cream.
Natural Eczema Ointment – Scientifically Proven
Researchers decided to check if this mixture can help in treating skin inflammations (dermatitis) and psoriasis, as well as if it reduce corticosteroid doses without worsening the skin condition. The results were really promising!
After two weeks of the experiment, it turned out that:
- 8 out of 10 people with skin inflammation who used only this natural ointment noticed a significant improvement.
- Among 5 out of 11 people using corticosteroids, the dose can be reduced by up to 75% while at the same time using this natural ointment – and with no worsening of the skin condition!
Psoriasis – Soothing for the Skin Without Side Effects

What’s more, in the case of psoriasis patients, the results were equally impressive:
- 5 out of 8 people using only this mixture noticed an improvement.
- Among 5 out of 10 people using clobetasol (a strong steroid), their dose also is reduced by 75% when they at the same time used the honey ointment for psoriasis.
This study suggests that the natural ointment can not only bring relief in psoriasis but also help reduce the use of steroids, which often cause side effects.
Hemorrhoids and Anal Fissures – Gentle but Effective Relief
Another study involved people suffering from hemorrhoids and anal fissures. Patients applied the mixture of honey, olive oil, and beeswax in equal proportions to the affected areas for 12 hours a day. What were the effects?
- People with hemorrhoids felt significant relief – reduced bleeding and itching.
- Patients with anal fissures noticed a reduction in pain, bleeding, and itching.
- Most importantly: no side effects were reported!
Researchers concluded that this mixture is a safe and effective solution for these health problems.
Diabetic Wounds – Can Honey Speed Up Healing?
What about wounds? One study evaluated the impact of honey and olive oil on the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. For this purpose, 45 patients were divided into three groups:
- The first group used honey dressings.
- The second group used olive oil dressings.
- The third group received standard care.
After a month, the results were clear – patients using honey or olive oil had significantly better results in terms of wound healing and pain reduction compared to the control group!
Moreover, further studies revealed that honey has strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which helps prevent infections and accelerates skin regeneration.
Honey Balm Recipe (30 g)

Ingredients:
- 4 g beeswax (preferably grated for easier melting)
- 9 g raw honey, preferably manuka
- 17 g extra virgin olive oil
- 2 drops of German chamomile essential oil (optional)
Preparation Method:
- Melt the beeswax and olive oil in a water bath.

2. Add the honey and mix vigorously until the mixture starts to thicken.

Note: If you pour the ointment directly into a container, the honey may settle at the bottom and the fat will stay on top. To avoid this, mix the ointment until it slightly thickens, then pour it into the jar.

3. Finally, add two drops of chamomile oil, which will enhance the anti-inflammatory effect of the cream, especially if you have eczema.
